In 2019, Khaleda Akhter, a mother of four from Gaibandha, received her first investment from FarmGourd for 8 cattle. Back then, her family’s income was modest, and she relied mostly on her husband’s earnings. Despite her hard work, Khaleda’s role in family financial decisions was limited. This initial support changed everything.

With careful guidance from FarmGourd’s field team, Khaleda learned how to manage the investment effectively. Within months, she became an equal contributor to her family’s income, taking active part in planning, selling, and reinvesting farm profits. Over the years, Khaleda expanded her farm using the profits and reinvestments, now owning another 8 cattle herself, in addition to the 12 cattle grown through FarmGourd’s reinvestment program. The family’s financial stability has significantly improved, allowing all four children to pursue education—two of them now studying in Dhaka. Khaleda’s increased contribution has also allowed her family to save and plan for the future, breaking the cycle of dependence and creating a legacy of empowerment.
